Hello! Welcome to the Pinkfresh Studio new release blog hop for May, “Happiness”! I had so much fun making a card with the new Border Stencils set! The 2-stencil set (with four stripey design options) is perfect for accenting cards or layouts. I used it to fill out the card design with a simply stamped spray of flowers. I felt inspired to use a soft palette of colors and just a little glitter gel.
I started with a 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 in. panel of heavyweight white cardstock (I prefer to work with heavyweight cardstock because I usually do a lot of layering). I used a rectangle die and a pencil to sketch out my topping panel on the heavyweight cardstock, and I’ll trim it when I’m ready.
First, I used one of the stencils as a mask and covered up most of the drawn panel, then I pulled out Cherry Blossom to blend some color on one side and Peach Fuzz on the other. I used Apricot, Sage, and Coral Reef again, along with the Border Stencils set, to blend stripes over the Peach Fuzz side of the card. With glitter gel, I used the Border stencil again to apply some sparkle (my fav. is Stickles glitter gel: Moon Dust) to the other side of the panel. I decided it needed the pop of a bolder color and used Lawn Fawn’s gold stencil paste with the single stripe stencil. I set it aside to dry for at least a day, although it probably didn’t need long.
When I first received the Border Stencils, I tested all the designs on scrap paper to understand better what they looked like, using Warm Buff (because it was nearby). Then, I cut circles from those scraps using a couple of different circle dies and set them aside. I cut my topping panel from the 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 piece of cardstock, starting with a Fiskars wire trimmer, then moved to a guillotine. I decided to trim the sides a bit more and eyeballed it, but it measures roughly 5 1/2 X 3 3/4 inches.
I heat embossed that fabulous, encouraging sentiment from the Be Fearless stamp set (which I believe in with my whole heart! 😊 As creatives, our most satisfying work happens when we are being true to ourselves) using Wow! ‘s Gold Pearl embossing powder. I rounded the corners of the panel and popped it up over my card base with fun foam.
For my spray of flowers, I used another new release, the Beautiful Branch stamp and die sets, along with Doe ink. I curled them just a bit and glued them to the topping panel. I placed three white circles over them and used the stenciled die-cut circles as accents. Then I added a little more glimmer with PFS’s Glacier jewels. And I was done!
I hope that some of these design choices have inspired you to make something new today! Thanks so much for stopping by!
