Hi, and welcome to your next stop on the Alex Syberia Designs November Collection Blog Hop & Giveaway! Oh, there’s so much pretty in this release! I got a hold of the new Joyful Poinsettia die set and made a fun blue Christmas card. I adore the curling, playful lines of these poinsettias!
I started with white heavyweight cardstock and the Poinsettia die set. I cut out multiple pieces, left them in place, taped them to the paper on the underside of the sheet I cut them from, and started inking the “blooms” with shades of blue, turquoise, and teal and just layering color on top of color. I used a blender brush and Pinkfresh Studio inks for all of my coloring.
(The flowers of a poinsettia aren’t actually flowers; they’re colored leaves called “bracts.” The flowers are actually tiny clusters in the middle of a circle of bracts… Lesson over. 😉) After coloring all the blue leaves, I used white pigment ink on the edges. There is a leaf die for the poinsettia to use as a base; I left mine white to help it pop more on the colored cardbase.
I decided it would be fun to add some leaves using another new release from Alex Syberia’s November collection: Magic Stars hot foil plate. I used gold foil with vellum and then die-cut some poinsettia leaves from it and cut them apart into single leaves.
I curled my blue leaves slightly using the handle of a big fat paintbrush and a couple of pieces of fun foam to provide some give when rolling the leaves. Then I started adhering it to my cardbase. I used foam tape for just one or two of the layers and made sure to stick it down in just the center of the arrangement. Then, I had plenty of space to start inserting the starry leaves putting glue on the tip of the leaf that is hidden. I also inserted the “stems” in the Joyful Poinsettia die set. A few of them were colored purple, and a few were die-cut from a sparkly gold specialty paper.
For that charming, scripty sentiment, I used ASD’s new Joy die (this set includes a shadow die that I ended up not using). I added some sparkly gold bling and was done with my fun, Joyful Poinsettia card!
Thanks so much for coming by!
