Hi Everyone! Pinkfresh Studio’s “Delightful” release is beautiful! Today, I’m sharing a card I made with a couple of new releases from their “Delightful” collection, including the new Diagonal Plaid press plate. I love the sense of movement with diagonal lines, so I paired it with the new Amazing Things stamp, stencil, and die, which also gives an impression of movement.
I started with the Diagonal Plaid press plate, which you can use with your Betterpress Letterpress system. You can also use it for hot foiling (with no worries!) and dry embossing, which I did. That’s a pretty versatile plate! I used white cardstock and spent a few minutes and a couple of panels of paper figuring out the sandwich I needed to emboss 110 lb. cardstock. I set aside my finished dry embossed panel and worked on the flower.
I’m just going to jump in here to say, “Yay for stencils!” Right? If I had tried to color this in with markers or pencils, it would have taken me ages.
I lightly stamped the image using Ballet Slipper, then pulled out the stencil set to start coloring using Pinkfresh inks. I used all of the green inks from the Over the Hills collection, applying the darkest green on the parts of the leaf that bend away from the light source. When coloring the flower, I got caught up in combining Aqua (Amalfi Coast) colors on the flower petal with the two orange ink collections: Chasing Sunsets and Indian Summer. But I tried to keep the darker ink colors to where the petals all meet up, and light can’t get to them easily. Pinkfresh’s teeny, tiny brushes (1/4 in. blending brush) are perfect for a lot of that detailed coloring.
I also used Pinkfresh’s Calico White pigment ink (with these Tsukineko Bullet Tip applicators I found online) on the tips of the petals for more layers of colors, lending a more dimensional look. I also use these applicators to apply ink to a very specific/small part of a stamp, such as black in a flower center. I’m not big on masking if I don’t have to. I ended up not using the detail stencil no. 2 for the leaves.
Tip* And because pigment ink stays damp for a short while, you can dab at the color with your fingertips after application to blend it out.
I put my colored flower back into the MISTI, where I left my stamp, and used a sticky ink, like Versamark, to heat emboss with Wow!’s Gold Pearl powder on the leaves and stem and their Gold Pearl Sparkle on the bloom. I had a couple of hot foiled, with Aura colored foil, vellum circles in my stash.
Tip* I’ve found it easier to foil with the thin, lightweight vellum I picked up on Amazon than the heavyweight vellum I use for stamping and die cutting.
I brushed the same Aqua ink I used on the flower to the back side of the vellum circles. Then I splattered them with Hero Arts gold metallic ink. After that was dry (I had to give it almost 24 hours), I used a couple of small dabs of glue, where they overlap, to adhere them to my dry embossed panel, which I had taped to an A2-sized cardbase. I glued down some of Pinkfresh’s gold Glitter Drops to continue with the bubbly background look.
The sentiment is from the new Delighted for You stamp and die sets. I appreciate that the word “love” die cuts separately from the rest of the sentiment, making it easier to stamp and die-cut in a different color or embossing powder if you’d like—no masking required. The flower and sentiment were popped up with foam tape, and I was done with my card!
I hope that some of these design choices have inspired you to make something new today! Thanks so much for coming by!
-Anne
