Pinkfresh Studio “Gentle Greetings & Greenery Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to your next stop on the Pinkfresh Studio “Gentle Greetings & Greenery” blog hop! Pinkfresh has a lovely collection of new designs out today. I made a sympathy card with the Thinking of You stamp, stencil, and die sets. I’ve been fortunate that I haven’t had to make one for a while, but I imagine it doesn’t hurt to have one or two in your stash, as it might be challenging to get creative in your craft room when you need one.

When it came to designing this, all I kept thinking about was keeping the design gentle and relatively simple or clean. I decided to use green, with a lot of white space and rounded the edges of my card.

I started with the topping panel of my 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 in. sized card. I used PFS’s Fresh Pear and Grassy Knoll ink colors to blend an area of green fading to white to place my flower over. Then, I splattered black over the same area, protecting the rest of the card with scrap paper. I set that aside to dry and started on the flower.

I put a cardstock panel into my stamping platform and stamped the image with Ballet Slipper. Then, I used the 4-stencil set to color everything in. I also used the stencil to add some leaves amidst the green background. It’s pretty subtle. I initially stamped with light pink ink to keep my options open. I could put the image back in the platform to stamp with black detail ink (or emboss over the finished coloring) if I wanted to.

I used the following colors for the flowers: Soft Lilac and Lavender, Sheer Freesia and Wisteria, and Slumber and Blue Jay. To make things a little more interesting, I also decided to use lemon whip and apricot. I used the same greens for the stems and leaves but added some yellow for that “new growth” look.

I decided not to stamp over the image. I liked how all the colors blended into each other, almost like watercolor. And because I originally stamped the image using a light ink, the outline doesn’t show.

I used the stencil to apply a small amount of glitter gel over a few of the petals and set that aside to dry.

I used a sentiment from the Thinking of You stamp set on the now-dry splattered panel. There are two large sentiments and four secondary sentiments. I stamped a large and beautiful scripty “With Sympathy” with Detail Black, cut the topping panel down, and rounded the corners with a corner punch. I used foam tape to pop the die-cut floral image up over the blend of green on the panel and tucked in a few Clear Drops: Leaf. Then, I decided to add a loose, curly organza bow. And I was done with my card.

I hope some of these design choices have inspired you to make something new today! Thanks so much for stopping by!

    Dear Anne,
What a beautiful card. I have had, unfortunately, to send a raft of sympathy cards lately. I might have to copy this design b/c it’s so lovely. And you used one of my all-time fave colors of any line: Fresh Pear. Great card, even if the reason for it is not great.
