Hello crafty co-horts! I’m up on the Pinkfresh blog today with a pretty layered butterfly card. I loved working with something so whimsical as a paper butterfly so I thought to make a wreath of them using the new, beautiful Small Butterflies hot foil plate, stencil set and die. 

The sentiment that I wanted to use inspired the color choices of mostly yellow with one purple butterfly and it’s from the Butterflies stamp set.

I began by hot foiling them with Glimmer foil colors Citrine and Fuchsia Flower. The colors that I used to shade the butterflies are: Lemon Whip, Sunshine and Sweet Mustard and Soft Lilac, Lavender and Candy Violet. I used the Small Butterflies stencil set which has 4 layers but I elected to use only 3 to keep some white spaces in them. (And oh-my-gosh I’m loving the layered stencil sets! So quick and easy to use!) I die cut them out using the Small Butterflies die. Then I die cut out, using one of the smaller Stitched Scallop Circles, a couple of scallop circles to adhere the butterflies onto, in order to make it easier with arranging them.

I also hot foiled some small butterflies onto heat resistant acetate and used one of them to layer the single purple butterfly over.

I decided that I wanted to layer some flowy, curved yellow leaves and shapes in the background behind the butterflies to help add more interest, movement and color to the card so I pulled out the Reason to Smile Wreath stamp set. When I stamped it onto my square card base, because I knew that my wreath of butterflies was slightly larger than the stamp, I moved the halves of the wreath apart by stamping the top and bottom halves separately. Then colored them both in with some colored pencils.

The circle was adhered to the card base with more foam tape (dimension is life!) before I started arranging my butterflies. They were adhered with more foam tape to the scallop circle and I ended up alternating the heights in order to make it easier to fit them all together on the ring. The wings were gently bent up a bit, adding even more dimension. I decided that the purple one needed some fun purple branches around it to balance out the colors just a bit more so I die cut them out using the Garden Wreath die set.

I put a sentiment strip across the middle and added a scattering of Sunshine yellow jewels and my butterfly wreath card was done. I really enjoy how the butterflies almost look like they’re about to flutter away. It’s such a gorgeous design and there are so many choices with the stamp set, stencil set, hot foil plate and die available.
