Hi guys! Welcome! I’ve got a card on my blog today that involves products from a few different companies. I’m using some items that I picked up a while ago, I finally found some time to make a card that I’ve had in mind for my Godmother, who is a bit of a birdwatcher.
I started with some patterned paper from My Mind’s Eye called Gingham Gardens, such a charming collection, I love it! The 6 X 8 pad that I picked up from Simon Says Stamp is no longer available but Scrapbook.com has a 6 X 6 pad which is very similar so I linked to that.
I used Honey Bee Stamps Barn Wood Planks die set to cut out and emboss some planks from the patterned paper. I had to cut out another layer (from white 80 lb. paper) to double layer the planks to strengthen them. I pulled out some Distress Oxide in Speckled Egg, I love that smoky blue color, and used a finger dauber to brush along the sides of the planks. Then I adhered them to a 5 X 7 sheet of paper with foam tape to pop them up.
For that colorful bird I used Papertrey Inks Feathered Friends 4 die set. I cut out the pieces from Neenah 110 lb. paper then spent some time with my Pinkfresh inks shading and coloring the bird: Peach Fuzz for his beak and feet. Lemon Whip, Sweet Mustard and Coral Reef for his breast. Ocean Breeze, Aquamarine and Tidal Pond for his wing and Sky Blue for his little head.
For the bunches of flowers I actually have baggies-for-days with extra flowers that have been die cut previously but never used. So I was able to take care of that step in the process pretty easily. Sometimes it pays off to save all those unused die cuts! I used an older die set by Sizzix, Small Tattered Florals for the flowers.
I wanted all the elements on my card to be gathered around something pretty but not so large that it obscured those cool looking patterned and embossed planks, so I pulled out Pinkfresh Studio’s oh-so gorgeous Fancy Oval Frame, die cut it twice and left it white. Let’s face it, there are so many other colors going on there that the frame, in white, looks nice and clean.
Before I adhered the frame to the top of the card, I black heat embossed my sentiment onto vellum and glued it to the bottom of the oval frame. This sentiment is from a much-loved Pinkfresh stamp set called Folk Hummingbird and I love to use it for a card when you’re not sure what occasion you may need it for. I cut the bow out of gold polka dotted vellum (I wanted a bow there but I wanted it to keep a low profile), using Pinkfresh’s Artistic Bows.
I finished the card off with some gold confetti from Studio Katia to echo the dots on the bow.
This card took a couple of days to make, I definitely did not make it all in one session. Whew!
