New Alcohol Markers and Stenciling

I thought it would be fun to enter a challenge or two this month. Not only was this project made to enter it in Pinkfresh Studio’s monthly challenge, but it was the first time I really explored my new alcohol markers. Sadly, they are not Copic, this crafty girl has a monthly budget that allows no room for crazy expensive markers… (but maybe someday, Lol!)

I used Ohuhu markers that I picked up on Amazon and even though I thought the set was large enough at 72, I found I was having some difficulty getting the exact color that I wanted for the leaves and greenery. I think they turned out okay, but it may be that markers are not my thing, I will keep working on it though. Color pencils are probably still my favorite to work with, I feel more in control with them.

I used Pinkfresh’s Folk Hummingbird stamp set and die, and colored them in with my new markers, then set them aside. For the background I used a Tim Holtz layering mini stencil set 36 and some Tumbled Glass distress oxide ink. I used a blending brush to apply the ink and had to keep moving the stencil because it didn’t cover the whole background piece.

Initially I was going to stencil around a mask of a heart, but in the end decided to die cut it out and splatter just a little extra color behind it on the base layer, esentially creating a heart shaped window framing the sentiment stamped on the card base. I ended up cutting down the stenciled panel just a little bit, but I still had the stenciled lines fade before they reached the edge of the paper… which I liked!

Ooo, I also got out some clear/translucent glitter glue, similar to Stickles but not Stickles. I used a ruler to help me drag it down one side of each of the blue stripes. This affect is so charming but impossible to photograph! Argh. I used a little of this glitter glue on the hummingbird too. Such a pretty sparkle when you look at it just right.

The stencil (with the die cut heart) layer got some foamtape on it to pop it up over the ink splatter and I ended up putting the hummingbird and the flower on foamtape as well to get it up off of the die cut heart, for some reason it didn’t look right laying directly on it

Glued and taped everything together and called it a day! I hope this inspires you to make something new!

Thanks for stopping by!
