Teacup Bouquet of Vellum Flowers

Hi guys! Welcome to your next stop on the Friendship Card Hop!

I wanted to make a pretty tea cup card for one of my sisters (I’ve got three and they are my best friends). The three of us could never convince her of coffee’s superiority so she’s managed to build up a small collection of lovely tea cups and they helped inspire this design.

Here’s a pic of me and two of my sisters… with a fun filter that makes us all look like aliens. I have no eyes, and the youngest is full-on yellow.

This one is pretty straight forward technique-wise. I picked up a cup and saucer die set from Spellbinders, Cup and Beans, at a good sale price. And used it on a pink sheet of patterned paper which looked water colored and maybe a little translucent? I used a couple of pencils to shade the edges just a little to help give it a rounded look. And since I’ve always loved the look of gold lining the rim of fancy cups, I pulled out my sparkly gold embossing powder, a q-tip and some Versamark (sticky ink). I swiped the sticky q-tip on the cup where I wanted it to be embossed and thought it turned out really pretty.

Next I die cut a ton of flowers out of regular vellum paper and some out of a gold vellum, using my Sizzix/Tim Holtz Small Tattered Florals die set. Then I pulled out a couple of alcohol markers to color them in on the backside of the flowers thinking that would help keep the color diffused. I also used my white gel pen on the top of the petals for some highlighting on the petal tips and… pretty much just anywhere I wanted to. No hard rules there. I used the smooth barrel end of a paint brush to press down on the center of the flowers (on top of two pieces of fun foam) gently pressing in a circular motion to get them to have more dimension. You can also use the paint brush handle to curl the petals down.

I popped the tea cup up on two layers of foam tape and glued the flowers down. I really went back and forth on whether or not I should do the framing piece. I think it would have been okay either way, and I’m pretty sure I just ended up going with it because it provided me with another opportunity to use some gold glitter embossing powder. Yes I like pretty, glittery, shiny, glossy things.

I just missed my sisters’ birthday and will hand deliver this to her when I see her this weekend.

I hope that this inspires you to make something new. Thanks so much for stopping by!
